Dr. Behrens was born in Carroll, Iowa to a farm family on November 1, 1969.

EducationDr. Behrens received a B.S. degree with distinction in Chemistry from Iowa State University in 1992 . His M.D. degree was awarded by the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1997. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University / Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in 2000. Dr. Behrens completed a fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 2003 in Bethesda, Maryland. He specialized in immuno-therapy of cancer and was protocol chairman of a national breast cancer vaccine trial. Dr. Behrens has been extensively involved in colon, pancreas, and ovarian vaccine trials. |
