Sarah J. Alexander, M.D., FACP

Dr. Alexander was born on January 10, 1944 in Tiruvella, Kerala which is a state in south west India.

 

 

Education Dr. Alexander's undergraduate work was completed at Christian Medical College, Vellore, Madras, India in 1965. Her residency in Internal Medicine was completed in 1973 at the V. A. Hospital, New Orleans, LA. Her fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology was completed in 1975 at Emory University School for Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

Certification: Dr. Alexander is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.


Practice Dr. Alexander entered practice at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She and her family relocated to Des Moines where she served as the medical oncologist and hematologist at the Des Moines Veterans Administration Hospital for ten years. Dr. Alexander joined Medical Oncology and Hematology Associates in 1989. Currently, Dr. Alexander is the Oncology-Hematology coordinator for the Internal Medicine Residency Program of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics-Iowa Methodist Medical Center.


Honors
  • Dr. Alexander was elected the outstanding teacher by the Internal Medicine Residency Program of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics-Iowa Methodist Medical Center in 1979, 1980, 1982, and 1983.

PublicationsDr. Alexander has published articles in Hematology and Oncology Journals, and has conducted investigative studies of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group. She has a special interest in coagulation and blood disorders.


Hobbies and Interests Dr. Alexander is an avid gardener. She and her husband live in Waukee, IA.
